Where does your bathroom fan vent to? For most of us, it isn't really something that we sit around thinking about. In fact, I would imagine the vast majority of people wouldn't even know. But why is it important? Look at the picture to your left. That is a bathroom fan venting directly into the attic. This is actually very common to see here on a home inspection. This is an issue because these fans primarily remove moisture from the bathroom and is supposed to bring it outside. When it is set up like this though, the moisture goes into your attic nd can cause some serious mold issues. So what can you do? Simply put, make sure it goes outside. Your soffits are usually not the best place to put it (as it can get drawn back in if you have ridge and soffit vents). Try venting it out a gable end if you have one, or through the roof if you have a hip style roof. Questions? Contact me!
