Can I Add in a Fireplace?

While we enjoy mostly warmer weather here in Florida, there are times when the temperature goes a little cooler, and you may feel that you would benefit from a fireplace in your home. But if your house was not constructed with a fireplace, is it possible to add one? Yes. The answer may be a factory-built fireplace. 

Factory-made fireplaces are commonly used in newly built homes, however, it is also possible to add them to older houses. A factory-made fireplace consists of a firebox, enclosed in a steel box that has a steel chimney or flue connected to it. They are lightweight, efficient, and easy to fit. 

Yet another advantage of factory-made fireplaces is that they generally have small safe clearance constraints and can be fitted close to wooden framing – this makes it possible to add a fireplace to almost any floor of the home. One word of caution, though, is that you must check the safe clearance requirements of the fireplace manufacturer, before deciding to purchase the fireplace, as guidelines will vary on this.

Finally, we all want our homes to be a place of safety. And although factory-built fireplaces do have an excellent safety record, you still need to take the appropriate safety measures when using one. It is also important to have the chimney checked regularly to prevent creosote from accumulating and becoming a danger to the occupants of the home.
