Tiled showers are known to leak. When a tiled shower is installed normally a layer of thin-set is worked down by hand and molded into a shower basin that points the water to the drain.
Unfortunately not every tile setter is as adept as others, and this step can leave some of the underpart of the shower in less than desirable condition. As the shower ages and gets used no one may notice much of anything going on. That is, until a home inspector such as myself shows up. These showers can be very expensive to fix, and I take a great deal of care to make sure they function properly each time.
